We believe that Kaunas needs a literary festival that continues the city’s deep literary traditions and meets today’s cultural ambitions.

We want to reveal what contemporary Lithuanian and world literature lives on, so at the events of Kaunas Literature Week, we present the most interesting Lithuanian and foreign writers.

We aspire to present at the festival the literary creations of Kaunas residents and authors who originated from Kaunas, focusing primarily on young Kaunas writers.

We believe that Kaunas Literature Week must represent the diversity of literary genres and respond to readers‘ interests while maintaining aesthetic quality.

We have embodied our priorities in a thoughtful program, slow and careful readings, and cordial meetings, where there will always be room for dialogue between the authors and the audience.

We earnestly aim to become a reliable partner, so we make connections with other international literature festivals, promoting the exchange of ideas and joint initiatives.

We strive to show the significant contribution of everyone – be it writer, translator, critic, lecturer, publisher, book dealer, library, bookstore or reader community – to the culture of the word.

We believe that masterful creations, intriguing stories, clever and witty conversations never go out of fashion.

We say: Kaunas is a city full of literature!

Who is “We“? We are Vytautas Magnus University and Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022.
