KRZYSZTOF CZYŻEWSKI (1958) – a prominent Polish essayist, poet, and cultural figure. Describing himself as a “practitioner of ideas,” he has been creating innovative literary and cultural formats for more than three decades, primarily implemented through the legendary “Pogranicze” (Borderland) Foundation, which operates in the Lithuanian border region, in Sejny and Krasnogruda. Czyżewski closely collaborates with Lithuanian intellectuals and was awarded the Leonidas Donskis Prize for his activities promoting a culture of dialogue. He has delivered lectures at various cultural institutions and universities not only in Europe but also on other continents, and is a visiting professor at the University of Bologna (Italy) and Rutgers University (USA). Czyżewski’s list of publications includes several poetry and essay books that have been well received and highly praised by critics. The Lithuanian collection of essays “Mažasis pasaulio centras” (“The Little Center of the World”) has been published in two editions (2020, 2025).
Krzysztof Czyżewski is also coming to Kaunas with a premiere – a new essay titled “The Garden of Mnemosyne: A Meditation on the Culture of Memory,” written especially for the “Šeteniai Readings.” The meeting with the author will take place on Saturday, November 15, at 6:00 p.m. at the Kaunas Artists’ House (V. Putvinskio St. 56, Kaunas). The event will be moderated by philosopher Viktoras Bachmetjevas and writer Laurynas Katkus.
